Set in the heart of Zululand this is the oldest game reserve in Africa (established in 1895). (Lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhinoceros) Game viewing is the principal attraction. As the home of operation Rhino in 1950 and 60, the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park became world renowned for its white rhino conservation. It is characterized by hilly topography and the northern section of the game reserve is noted for its wide variety of both birdlife and wildlife. Apart from game viewing drives, there are self guided trails which provide information on both the management and natural history of the game reserve. Guided walks can be especially rewarding in the mornings and late afternoon. Mtunzini beach is a unique destination for nature lovers. This hidden gem is perfect for anyone searching for simple beauty, quietness and relaxation. Mtunzini offers amazing walks and has abundant birdlife. The dunes and beach seemingly stretch forever, and the river meanders through the forest and pristine mangroves. Shakaland is beautifully situated in the Entebeni hills with a wide view of the bush land and the quiet Pobane Lake. After the tour one can taste the Zulu beer and join in a traditional meal. Tusk Umfolozi Casino located in Empangeni is a colourful tribute to the proud traditions of the Zulu nation, and the entrance features a massive water feature which consists of a number of huge Zulu earthenware pots, which pour themselves out into a bed of polished river pebbles. The restaurant offers an a-la-carte menu which displays various delicious local dishes. Other facilities include child minding and a gaming arcade.
